Waiting on Wednesday #26

A reader gets sucked into the book she’s reading and is trapped, unless she convinces the hero of the story to send her home. Just her luck - the story is unfinished, and its sexy hero is far more alpha male than she’s prepared to handle.

What Naia doesn’t know: the story – and its hero – have been expecting her for quite some time, even though she has no idea what she’s doing there.

Naia must learn quickly how to navigate the dangerous, magical world of Black Moon Draw and find a way to woo the unlikely, uncooperative hero of the story, who holds the key to returning her home

I had the pleasure of meeting Lizzy at C4 Lit Fest and want to read the majority of her books. This book is one of two of her upcoming books that are releasing before the end of the year. When I first read the synopsis, my immediate reaction was "I need this like yesterday". It just looks so awesome and definitely a switch up from my usual go to books.

Kaleidoscope Blog Tour - Review & Giveaway

Title: Kaleidoscope
Series: Stim #2
Author: Kevin Berry
Release Date: January 3, 2014
Publisher: Waspie Publishing
Review Copy: From publisher in exchange of honest review
The sequel to STIM…an Aspie new adult contemporary novel set in an earthquake zone.

Chloe is different. She has Asperger’s Syndrome, Bipolar Disorder and probably a few other inconvenient conditions as well. She’s a quirky, resourceful and clever psychology student, but her world is literally about to be shaken apart. A devastating earthquake sparks a chain of events that spiral her life out of control. She’s off her meds. Her oddly-named cat is missing. She doesn’t know what she wants out of life any more. Misfortune and uncertainty don’t mix well with bundles of energy and Chloe’s tendency to ignore consequences. It’s as if mayhem and trouble are her constant companions.

Will Chloe be able to cope with the earth-shaking events that rock her world?

The story picks up a few months after the events in Stim ended. Both Robert and Chloe are still adjusting from the events of the earthquake that changed their daily life on a flip of a dime.

The events that Chloe endures within this story are barely manageable for even a person who isn't autistic. She pulls through like a champion. But like all champions, she has some low points. Although we do have to remember what is a low for someone whose autistic, can be kind of extreme.

The flow of this book is very similar to Stim. This, is a good thing. Not often I'd say that, but I feel it makes you understand Chloe more. I wanted to be with her and try to understand her, because as we read about her current dealings, we also learn more about her family dynamic, or should I say, lack thereof. She's one who needs more friends who understand her.

Normally, when the main character of a book is down and such, the secondary character comes and tries to help. Well, in this case, that doesn't happen. And in a normal situation one would get mad at a character while reading this book. But with Robert, you can't expect the "norms", all because of how his brain works. Simple things as sarcasm and saying "penny for your thoughts" are over is head. It's just the quirk of the autistic mind. He tries hard, truly. It's just he doesn't pick up on such things.

Overall, I love this book. It was hard to see Chloe hit that low, but at the same time, we got to see how she thinks things through and in the end, she finds her place in this world.

As I was reading, I found 2 pages that I loved. And I thought I'd share with you what pages they were.

I think this page pretty much describes how any book lover feels when in a bookstore.

Any story that can reference Doctor Who wins an award in my books for awesomeness.

Series: Something Strange & Deadly #3
Release date: July 22nd 2014
Publisher: HarperTeen
Purchase: Amazon | B&N

In the conclusion to the trilogy that Publishers Weekly called “a roaring—and addictive—gothic world,” Eleanor Fitt must control her growing power, face her feelings for Daniel, and confront the evil necromancer Marcus...all before it’s too late.

He took her brother, he took her mother, and now, Marcus has taken her good friend Jie. With more determination than ever to bring this sinister man to justice, Eleanor heads to the hot desert streets of nineteenth-century Egypt in hopes of ending this nightmare. But in addition to her increasingly tense relationships with Daniel, Joseph, and her demon, Oliver, Eleanor must also deal with her former friend, Allison, who has curiously entangled herself in Eleanor’s mission.

With the rising dead chomping at her every move and Jie’s life hanging in the balance, Eleanor is convinced that her black magic will see her through to the bitter end. But there will be a price. Though she and the Spirit Hunters have weathered every battle thus far, there will be consequences to suffer this time—the effects of which will be irreversible. And when it’s over, only some will be able to live a strange and ever after.

Susan Dennard will leave readers breathless and forever changed in the concluding pages of this riveting ride.

Fifty years ago The Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society.
To punish the guilty, he created the Hole, a place where sinners are branded according to their sins. Sinners are forced to live a less than human existence in deplorable conditions, under the watchful eye of guards who are ready to kill anyone who steps out of line.
Now, LUST wraps around my neck like thick, blue fingers, threatening to choke the life out of me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit, and the Hole is my new home.
Constant darkness.
Brutal and savage violence.
Excruciating pain.
Every day is a fight for survival.
But I won’t let them win. I will not die in the Hole.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter. My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.

Chapter-by-Chapter-header---Excerpt
“You’re a sinner,” they say. “Time to leave.”
I stand defiant. I refuse to bend or break before them, even as I shiver with fear.
“There’s no reason to make this difficult. The more you cooperate, the smoother this will be for everyone,” a guard says.
I cringe into the blackness along the wall. I’m innocent, but they won’t believe me or care.
The next instant, my face slams into the pavement as one guard plants a knee in my back and another handcuffs me. A warm liquid trails into my mouth. Blood. Their fingers grip my arms like steel traps as they peel me off the cement. The tops of my shoes scrape along the ground as I’m dragged behind them until they discard me into the back of a black vehicle. The doors slam in unison with one guard stationed on each side of me, my shoulders digging into their arms.

Swallowing hard, I stare ahead to avoid their eyes. My dignity is all I have left. The handcuffs dig into my wrists, so I clasp them together hard behind me and press my back into the seat, unwilling to admit how much it hurts.
