Trapped in a dark cult, sixteen-year-old Naomi Aren has lived a quiet, albeit unhappy, life nestled deep in the hills of the Ozarks. With uncut hair, denim skirts, and only roses for friends, Naomi seldom questions why her life is different from other kids at school. Until the day her abusive father, who is also the cult’s leader, announces her wedding. Naomi must marry Dwayne Yerdin, a bully who reeks of sweat and manure and is the only one person who scares her worse than her father.

Then she meets Kai, the mysterious boy who brings her exotic new roses and stolen midnight kisses. Kisses that bring her a supernatural strength she never knew she had. As the big day approaches, Naomi unearths more secrets about her father’s cult. She learns she has power of her own and while Kai may have awakened that power, Naomi must find a way to use it to escape Dwayne and her father—without destroying herself.

Kissed is much of a beautiful book, as it is a heartbreaking one.

You have Naomi, who has a less than ideal upbringing. But survives because of one thing and that is her roses. When she manages to escape, her new life becomes less than normal. She quickly fins out she's been raised in the war of the balance between good and evil.

Naomi is a great heroine. She may live a sheltered life, but when she escapes, she transforms. She knows what she wants, gets a sense of direction in life and most of all, she gets herself back. So, she's naive. Who wouldn't be after not being able to leave home except school and church?

Dwayne was disgusting, evil and downright scary. He takes the meaning of forced marriages to a whole new level. When he was with Naomi, I just just wanted to tell her to kick him in the balls and then run.

I can't write this review without mention the hotties that are featured in this book. Kai and Puck. They're the ones that drive Naomi's journey. Even if they try to use it to their advantage.

This book is totally fresh and exciting to read. Its a great start to a series that I cannot wait to continue to read. The incorporation of all the roses was beautiful. However, there is abuse in it. So if you're touchy on that subject, reader beware.

This review was incredibly hard to write without giving away spoilers. Sometimes, in reviews, you can sometimes give away small minor details and it won't ruin the book. But because this book was far from predictable, I feel like anything I say, will reveal something.
