Cora Lewis is a whole lot of fun, and she knows how to keep her tattooed bad boy friends in line. But all that flash and sass hide the fact that she’s never gotten over the way her first love broke her heart. Now she has a plan to make sure that never happens again: She’s only going to fall in love with someone perfect.
Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He’s stubborn and rigid, he’s bossy and has come back from his final tour of duty fundamentally broken. Rome’s used to filling a role: big brother, doting son, super soldier; and now none of these fit anymore. Now he’s just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes the only color on his bleak horizon.
Perfect isn’t in the cards for these two, but imperfect might just last forever . . .
First review of 2014! First new adult book of the year for me AND my first Marked Men book. Man, that's a lot of firsts. But I will say that it was an awesome book.
I love how Jay writes complex characters. They aren't you average blond hair, blue eyed, 5'8", perfect life females. Or your average brown hair, brown eyed, 6'2" jock males. Cora and Rome are so much more than that and I loved it. The one thing that makes this tattooed, pierced chick different is her two different eye colors. According to Professor X, she has heterochromia. Okay, inner X-Men nerd moment over. Seriously loved these two.
Dealing with grief can take a toll. Especially when you're in a position such as Rome. With being in the military overseas, seeing soldiers die is a daily occurrence. Having a family member pass away while you're away doesn't help. This grief is what troubles and almost destroys Rome. That is till Cora comes and dumps a beer on him. Which, I have to say is one of the best ways to meet your future guy.
This plot line of the story follows your average new adult book. So without being all spoilery, I will tell you that hearts will be healed, having another purpose in life will be found and let's not forget the steamy scenes that could make anyone turn into jello.
As there are many other books to this series, both released and unreleased, I can't wait to indulge in another one of Jay's books.
