 Amazon - B&N

Zoe Granger picked up her first guitar the day her heart was smashed into a billion pieces. It was a way to keep her mind off her inevitable downward spiral, but music soon became her escape. She's been burned too many times to tell and is just happy to coast through life, never putting herself out there. That's until her best friend Dee suggests they start a band and suddenly she finds herself not just a part of it, but fronting the whole outfit.

They call themselves The Devil's Tattoo and when they release their debut EP, it rockets to the top of the charts and it's like an overnight fairytale. Contracts, photo shoots, royalties and interviews are heaped onto the shy Zoe and it's like she's finally found her place. Then comes the phone call that changes everything. They've been asked to co-headline a tour with one of the hottest bands of the moment, The Stabs and Zoe will never be the same again.

Will Strickland is one fourth of the hottest indie rock band to ever grace the airwaves. He's the bass player in The Stabs, hot as hell and could have his pick of any girl that flings herself at him. But he's only got eyes for Zoe and she has no idea why he'd bother. She's got one hell of a trust issue and an attitude to boot and Will seems to be the one who wants to tame her, but is he game enough?

The Devil's Tattoo and The Stabs go on the road and it's either going to be a highway to hell or a stairway to heaven. Only time will tell who will come out on top and Zoe's determined to do it without getting her heart broken… again.

I'm not going to lie, when I think of Zoe Granger I immediately think of Lzzy Hale from Halestorm.  From her looks to her badassness.

Warning: This book has lots of awesome Aussie words like wankers.

I loved this book. This book is Sex and Rock n Roll combined into one.

What I liked was that it wasn't your typical band book. For one, Zoe finds herself in a band after her best friend, Dee forms one. The other thing is that Will isn't the lead singer of the band, he's the bassist and I think it's safe to say bassists can be underrated especially if they don't sing in the band.

Guys, when will you learn if you want the girl, JUST ASK. Don't make her jealous. That's just the way to piss her off and turn her off.

I was almost halfway through this book when I was at the point where I kept thinking "JUST HAVE SEX ALREADY!!!" I mean they were both driving each other up the bloody wall with sexual tension. I was definitely cheering them on when they finally did it.

Zoe is broken and uses music to release how she feels. I love the transition she goes throughout the book. First just losing herself in the music and then finally embracing the show, audience and all.

Now, what's a little drama. I found that Will's past coming back wasn't fully needed. But I did like how Zoe's past does. It strengthens her relationship with Will, ultimately making her realize he's the real thing.

I leave you with this.

In the spirit of Halloween, I thought this was a fitting choice. LOVED the first one. The pictures were phenomenal. Can't wait to see what Ransom has in store for this.

Pressing the boundaries of both the psyche and the heart, Sam and Holden embark on a dangerous journey that will test the limits of love.

Sam Wintry’s life used to be almost perfect. She was engaged to her childhood best friend and high school sweetheart, Tyler Marks, planning an amazing cross-country honeymoon during her college break. But after a hit-and-run leaves her in ruin, she begins seeing Tyler’s fractured, ghostly presence, and her family believes she’s losing her mind. Not until she completes their journey, stopping along the way to scatter Tyler's remains, will Tyler be able cross over. Only...is Sam ready for him to leave her?

When the black sheep of the Marks' family, Holden Marks, returns to check on Tyler's case, Sam convinces him to give her his brother's ashes. Despite their shaky history, she needs him...plus, he owes it to Sam and his brother. What she doesn’t count on is Holden’s relentlessness to go on the trip.

On the road, Holden realizes just how unhinged Sam has become. Dealing with her psychosis forces him to confront his dark past, making it harder to keep secrets hidden that should remain buried. Especially from Sam, the only woman he’s ever loved. And as Sam starts to unravel the truth, she begins to question if the brother she's unwillingly falling for again is in an even darker place than her.

Unbreathable Release Week Book Blitz - Trailer, Cast Profile & Giveaway

Title: Unbreathable
Series: Unbreathable #1
Author: Hafsah Laziaf
Publisher: Self
Release date: October 29, 2013
Genre: Young Adult, Science Fiction, Romance, Dystopian

One hundred and fifty years ago, Earth was destroyed, and the remaining humans fled to the dusty red planet of Jutaire, where the only oxygen is manufactured, food is scarce, and death strikes often.

When Lissa's father discovers Earth still exists, she accidentally inhales the toxic air of Jutaire, and in one breath, discovers she isn't quite human.

Her father hangs for his discovery, and Lissa knows the Chancellors will come for her, for she saw the Earth that night too. With nothing to lose, she sets out to expose the truth. It isn't long before she meets Julian, a beautiful boy who can breathe the toxic air like she can - and shows her that the Jute, the original inhabitants of the planet, are more tangled in their lives than she knows.

But the Chancellors are only pawns in a greater game - one where the Jute control everything. Worse, the Jute plan to leave Jutaire for Earth, but to get there, they need her. And they'll stop at nothing until Lissa is in their clutches, even if they kill every human in the process.

The race for Earth has begun.

Unbreathable is a tale of love, redemption, and sacrifice, and one girl's struggle to find her place in a world where she doesn't belong.

Book Trailer

Cast Profiles

Lissa

Age: 17
Height: 5’ 6”
Lung Type: Can breathe oxygen and Jutaire’s air without consequence
Inspired by: The girls who feel insubstantial but are not
Likes: Reading, learning new things, Earth, the stars, the color blue, Julian
Dislikes: Chancellor Kole, too much noise, attention

When Unbreathable begins, Lissa feels like she is nothing. She suddenly discovers she isn’t human, her father—the only person she knew—dies, taking with him her only chance at answers. As the story moves on, she’s more important - needed for something other than who she is. But this hardship helps her find out exactly who she is, and that she’s never alone, no matter how it seems.

Julian Trey

Age: 20
Height: 5’ 11”
Lung Type: Can breathe Jutaire’s air without consequence - too much oxygen deems dangerous
Inspired by: Perfection?
Likes: Drawing, Earth, his mother, the color blue, Lissa
Dislikes: Power, Queen Rhea, Rowan, Gage

Since the death of his mother, all Julian has wanted is to join her. His grief from all that he has lost has led him to hurt himself. He’s broken in ways he doesn’t think can be fixed, and sees the world through a single lens, until it’s shattered by a few words Lissa says before thinking. He’s soft-hearted, cares for everyone but himself, and in the end, it nearly costs him his life.

Rowan Trey

Age: 20
Height: 6’
Lung Type: Can only breathe the toxic air of Jutaire - full Jute
Inspired by: The Darkling (Shadow & Bone)
Likes: Power, attention, Lissa, Julian - even if he won’t admit it
Dislikes: Humans, Queen Rhea, anyone who stands in his way

Unlike Julian, Rowan’s grief has led him to hurt others and take revenge. The lines between good and evil are nonexistent in his eyes. As Julian’s half-brother, and twin in appearance, Rowan and Julian have identical needs, though their methods of acquiring them aren’t as similar. Rowan’s desire for power and the need to be understood for who he is has blinded him to what is good and inclined him towards evil.

Slate

Name: Slate
Age: 34
Height: 5’ 10”
Lung Type: Can only breathe oxygen - full human
Inspired by: The opposite of what soldiers are perceived to be on Jutaire
Likes: Earth, peace, fighting, fresh food
Dislikes: Gage, Chancellor Willem, being a tool

Slate’s life is dedicated to serving the humans of Jutaire. As a soldier, he has pledged to do whatever it takes to keep the humans safe, until the ties of his blood pushes him to murder his own brother, striking an irreversible avalanche. When he discovers he was used by the woman he once loved, he doesn’t break down, because it gave him something better, but he is still grieved by the life he never got to live with a certain person.

Q: As a writer, how do you come up with your ideas for stories?

PT: Writers by nature are very observant people. We absorb what we see, hear, smell and touch everyday, so everything inspires us from movies to music to people. One thing that has always inspired when forming a new story idea is I always ask myself the question, "What if…." and then I fill in the blank. :)

Q: A story about a girl dreaming her entire next day (and ONLY her next day) the night before is unusual. How did you come up with the concept for BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS?

PT: The idea behind the BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS series started off as one of those "What if" questions. I ask myself, "What if a girl dreamed her entire next day?" Then I think through all the possible scenarios: How would that impact her? Would she act upon what she saw? And if not, why? What if she didn't have a choice? And from there…the story starts flowing.

Q: DESTINY is the 3rd book in the BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS series. Did you know how many books it would be when you first wrote BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS?

PT: I didn't know how many books the series would be, but I definitely knew the story was far bigger than just a couple of books. I'm what you call a hybrid-pantser writer. A pantser is someone who sits down and just writes…no planning, no plotting involved. The story just flows out. My stories are intricately weaved, so I have to do a bit of planning before I start writing. I write a very high-level outline and give myself TONS of permission to veer off course as the story unfolds while I write. But at least the outline keeps me reminded of what my goals were for the story.  When you have mystery elements like I do in the BKoD series, knowing where you're going is pretty important. :) So as the stories have unfolded, they took on a life of their own. And then I've had to plan each book as I go and also dovetail back into the previous books I've written in the series.

Q: Ravens feature dominantly in the BKoD series, which is definitely different from vampires, werewolves and the like we've seen in a lot of popular paranormal books. What made you choose to write about ravens?

PT: I've always been fascinated by ravens. The lore about them is so interesting. Ravens have been on many of my previous book covers and are mentioned in passing or are part of the storyline in past books. They just weren't the main storyline. In BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS, ravens finally take front and center. :)

Q: How many books do you plan for the BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS series?

PT: Right now the plan is four books. Depending on how the last book unfolds, there may be a spin off. I'm leaving the possibilities open. :)

Q: BKoD is listed as a YA series, but DESTINY could definitely fall into the New Adult category. Tell us more about that; give us the scoop on the smexy stuff. :)

PT: My goal in writing the BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS series was to write a series that both upper teens and adults would enjoy equally. I've written the stories in the series based on Nara and Ethan's age and the progression of their relationship as it deepens. That's the reason things heat up as me move from book 1 to book 2 and then on to book 3.

Q: Any thing else you'd like to add?

PT: I just wanted to shout out a huge THANK YOU the readers and bloggers who've supported the BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS series from the beginning!

Very Superstitious Blog Tour - Interview & Giveaway

Title: Very Superstitious
Publication date: October 15, 2013
Publisher: Month9Books, LLC.
Authors: Delany, Jackie Morse Kessler, Stephanie Kuehnert, Jennifer Knight,
Marianne Mancusi, Michelle E. Reed, Dianne Salerni and Pab Sungenis

The stories are based on urban legends, myths, tribal tales and superstitions from around the world.  A charity anthology to benefit SPCA International with stories by Shannon Delany, Jackie Morse Kessler, Stephanie Kuehnert, Jennifer Knight, Marianne Mancusi, Michelle E. Reed, Dianne Salerni and Pab Sungenis.

I got to interview Mari Mancusi

1)    What do you need or don't need in your writing space?

Quiet and coffee.

2)    In Scorched, which I can't wait to read, revolves around a dragon. What made you want to write a story around this majestic creature?

I’ve always been fascinated by dragons ever since I read Robin McKinley’s Hero and the Crown when I was a child. They’re big, majestic, a bit scary and more than a bit dangerous but also beautiful and magical and loyal.

Also I wanted to explore what would happen if dragons became a part of our world. Too often they’re featured in stories about far off fantasy kingdoms. What would happen if they came here today? Would they trend on Twitter?

3) Can you give a 140 character sentence on what your short story in the anthology is about?

A story about loyalty and the sacrifices we choose to make for those we love…even if they don’t turn out the way we expect. Also: werewolves.

4) What is something you'd like to write about but are overwhelmed by?

Historicals. I like reading them, but could never deal with all the research that goes into making them true to life.
