Musical Monday #11

So, as you guys see, my logo is a pomegranate. I've been starting to get questions on why I chose it. Well if you've been following my Musical Monday posts, you can start to see a pattern. To answer your question, yes it does have to do with Marianas Trench. Shocked? No, I didn't think so.

In the song there is a scene that starts around 15 seconds into the video where they mention the pomegranate. Now, there is an actual story that goes with why they decided to incorporate this wonderful fruit.

The story goes; The band was staying in a hotel (They didn't say what city) while on tour and the group in the room beside them was wasted and the punchline for everything was... Pomegranate!

There you have it folks! That is why I chose the pomegranate as my logo.

Let me know in the comments what you think of the song or your thoughts on the pomegranate. Other than it's a bitch to eat.

PS. I've heard this story at least twice in the times I've seen them live.

A to Z Book Survey

Author you’ve read the most books from:

I think my most read books belongs to J.K. Rowling. I have many authors on my To-Read shelf that have multiple books (Ex. Julie Kagawa, Cassandra Clare, Rachel Vincent).

Best Sequel Ever:

So, cause I'm like ubber behind on series in general, I've read a lot of firsts in a series. But have yet to read the sequels. So of the sequels I have read, I'm going to say Insurgent! I mean, that ending! Like wtf o.O

Currently Reading:

By A. G. Howard
Library book

Drink of Choice While Reading:

It depends where I'm reading.
If I'm at home, then its usually coffee. Sometimes I go to Starbucks and read.
But if I'm at the cabin then you'll likely see me drinking something alcoholic.

E-reader or Physical Book?

I love them both equally, for different reasons.

Why do I love Ebooks?
The ability to get novellas.
Read awesome indie books.
More bang for my buck.
Why do I love physical books?
Some covers just need to be owned in physical format
You can lend the books to people
Can be cheaper than the ebook (especially if in clearance)

Fictional Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated In High School:

Well considering I never had a boyfriend in high school, and have yet to have one. I asked my friend and co-blogger, Julia on who I'd date. And according to the powers that be, she said I'd likely date an Ethan Wate from Beautiful Creatures.
Ya, I think I'd go for that.

Glad You Gave This Book A Chance:

There are many books that I just picked on a whim and ended up loving.
So, I can't really pick one specific book.

Hidden Gem Book:

The Wild Wood Its a supernatural creeper that I think everyone should read.

Important Moment in your Reading Life:

Getting the first Harry Potter book for a birthday gift from my cousin when I turned 6. I was truly the Potter generation. It's what made me a reader.

Just Finished:

Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:

Books about the 1800's. I've given a few a shot and they just didn't grab me. Other than noth

Longest Book You’ve Read:

According to Goodreads it was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix!

Major book hangover because of:

Phoenix - Black City #2 by Elizabeth Richards

Number of Bookcases You Own:

One. And its bloody stuffed! I really need anther one, but I have no where to put it...What else is new?

One Book You Have Read Multiple Times:

I have this problem where I can't read a book multiple times... But, I do want to reread books that I read when I was an early teen. Like the Study Series by Maria V. Snyder

Preferred Place To Read:

Couch or comfy chair. I also read a lot before I sleep

Quote that inspires you/gives you all the feels from a book you’ve read:

"Mon ange" Which is the last line in Until I Die, the second book in the Revenants trilogy.
In english it means "My angel" and if you've read the book, then you know why it touched me so.

Reading Regret:

The fact that I stopped reading YA when I started university. I know I was busy with school work, but now I have SO many books and series to catch up on.

Series You Started And Need To Finish(all books are out in series):

There are a few I can name but I'm going to say the Vampire Academy series. I'm reading them in audio form. So I just decided to take a break from reading the first 3 back to back.

Three of your All-Time Favorite Books:

Oh geez I hate picking favorites. I have favorite authors more than books.

Unapologetic Fangirl For:

There's a lot of authors I fangirl for, but I'm going to say Hafsah Laziaf, Elizabeth Richards, Jennifer Armentrout. Just to name a few.

Very Excited For This Release More Than All The Others:

Picking one book I'm most excited for is SO HARD! But if I did, it would have to be... Unbreathable or Wings. See! I couldn't even pick one.

Worst Bookish Habit:

I really don't have a bad book habit. I guess if anything it would be the fact that I get books I need right when they publish but don't actually read them for a long time. I can name so many books where I've done that.

X Marks The Spot: Start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book:

Dark Heart Forever by Lee Monroe
Like most of my books on my shelves, I haven't read it.

Your latest book purchase:

ZZZ-snatcher book (last book that kept you up WAY late):

Phoenix by Elizabeth Richards Got that baby on release day and stayed up late finishing it. THE FEELS!!!

After starting this last month,  I finally sat down and finished it. YIPPEE!!!

That's Too Much - Ebook Prices

When I thought of post title I clearly thought of the game from Price Is Right.

So, I was talking to my friend who has a kindle and she says that $10 is too much for an ebook.

This got me thinking on how I decide on when to get it as an ebook vs physical copy.  A few things run through my head when I get a book. List not in particular order.

A) Will I know someone who may want to read it?
B) Is it in paperback?
C) Is it cheaper on Kobo or Kindle?
D) Am I having cover lust?
E) Or, am I best to just borrow from libary.

Now, this brings up the argument; if the book is out in paperback then I guess that is a fair judgement to say that $10 for the ebook is too much. Mostly due to the fact is how much a paperback copy is most of the time.

For example:
Die for Me by Amy Plum (Wonderful book by the way)
Released May 2, 2011 (ebook) March 26, 2012 (paperback)

As you can see both are the same price. Now, is that fair? It depends. If you got it as an ebook when it first came out. Then yes, because the hardcover copy was $20 as a new release.

The average price of a new release Young Adult hardcover is $20 and an Adult book is usually a bit more approx between $25 and $30. Then the ebook edition on release day is an average between 40 and 50% cheaper.
For Example:
Song of Fire and Ice Series by George R. R. Martin - Oct 29, 2013
Paperback Boxset $59.95 Ebook Set $39.99

It's safe to say that is a great deal. So, for my lovely readers. When do you go "That's too much" when it comes to an ebook? What do you factor in when deciding which format to purchase?

Excerpt
I stooped down and back-elbowed him across his jaw. His head fell sideways, but not for long, he turned to watch me but said nothing. I got up and slammed a good kick to his side. He winced but remained silent.

“What are you up to?” I demanded.

“Killing.”

“Why?”

He smiled. “It’s fun.”

“I’m about to call Derek, but I’d like to know what you’re after first.”

“Let me go,” he said.

“Oh… you’re hilarious.”

“You’ll regret keeping me here, Annie. I can’t afford to be captured right now.”

“Oh, RIGHT, what was I thinking? I should have called ahead to schedule an appointment for your capture. I just didn’t have your number!” I watched him in disbelief.

“I don’t have email or Twitter either. You know why?” His lip twitched. “I can’t have followers.”

I heard a chuckle from behind.

“Really, Beth? You’re going to encourage him?”

“What? No, it was just… I thought it was… funny,” she finished saying in a low voice.

I turned back to Nick and was about to grab his neck when I realized being that close to him would not be a good idea. If I allowed myself to get that close to him, he could hypnotize me to let him go, so instead, I kicked him.

“Now you’re just doing this for spite,” he said.

“Yes.” I kicked him again. “You started it at Worldsafe.”

“What are you, ten? I pinch you, you pinch me? Actually, I wouldn’t mind pinching you…” I was about to slam him again. “No, stop. Stop! Your kicks are more painful than mine. Stop it.”

“Any more requests? It seems you think you’re in charge here,” I said.

“Just, wait, all right? Don’t call Derek. Don’t let anyone know I’m here,” Nick begged.

“Scared?” I smirked.

Excerpt

The evening was going about as well as I expected. How likely is it in any given mating-game situation that the wingman will fall for the girl's moral support sidekick? In this case, given my mindset, the odds were exactly zero. With the pounding music, even trying to make idle conversation was pointless.

We got our subs and energy drinks and found an empty patch of lawn to sit on. Bre cooed to Dan. Jake and I were awkward and ate mostly in silence. My gaze landed on an Up All Night sign advertising the events of the evening.

PRECISION PIERCING. SPECIALS—TONIGHT ONLY! HALF OFF THE USUAL PRICE. BELLYBUTTON, EARS, CARTILAGE, AND NOSES ONLY.

My heart pounded in my ears. I'd read enough. I knew what I wanted, what I had wanted for a couple of years now but was too rebellious to do—pierce my navel. To understand how not piercing my bellybutton is rebellious, you have to know my mom. It was what she wanted me to do, so it was exactly what I refused to do. But now I didn't care what she thought. I could pierce or not pierce at my pleasure. I was of age and didn't need her permission. She'd never know unless I wanted her to. And even then, she wouldn't be around to gloat and enjoy her triumph.

Anyway, that wasn't the way I saw it. Doing what I wanted without regard to her was my victory. I looked around at the party atmosphere that I should have been enjoying and found myself almost smiling.

Dan and Jake wolfed down their sandwiches and were ready to party. Bre wrapped the remains of hers, ready to toss it so she could get on with the evening. I'd barely touched mine, but that wasn't unusual. Since the breakup I'd lost my appetite for just about everything in life and ten pounds along with it. And I hadn't been overweight to begin with.

Dan offered Bre a hand up. "Dance or take in the magic show?"

"Dance!" Bre laughed and took his arm, smiling up at him coyly.

"Body piercing!" I said in unison with Bre as I stood and dusted the grass off my butt.
Three pairs of eyes turned on me. I kept smiling. "What? It'll be fun. It's not something you do every day. What better way to remember the start of our illustrious college careers here than with a new piercing?"
I spoke boldly for someone who only had her ears pierced.

Beside me, Jake shook his head. "Guys don't get pierced. Not at Up All Night." He spoke like an expert.
I ignored him and appealed to Bre. She shook her head. "The line will be too long by now. We'll miss everything else. You can get pierced any time. I'll go with you whenever you want."

"But not for half price," I said.

"Ellie, come on." Bre's eyes begged me to be reasonable.

I waved her off. "You guys go ahead. I'm off to get my bellybutton pierced. I'll text you when I'm done and catch up with you later. Have fun!"

Without waiting for an answer, I spun and ran off through the crowd toward the SUB, feeling free and exhilarated for the first time all summer.

My exhilaration lasted as I wound through the crowded first floor of the SUB, following the signs to Precision Piercing's station. Up the stairs to the second floor toward the ballroom, right until I saw the long line and my courage failed.

Jake had been an ass about things, but he was right about one thing—there were no guys in line for piercing. Bre was right, too. There was a good chance I was already too late. Any minute they'd be shutting off the line, saying they'd reached their maximum.

I stood there, not quite in line, staring and debating with myself. I'd just ditched my roommate and she was going to be pissed about it, especially if I came back without another hole in my body. On the other hand, I could claim I'd been turned away because the line was too long and she'd have gloating rights for the rest of the semester. Maybe even the rest of the time we knew each other. At homecoming twenty years from now, I still wouldn't hear the end of it.

"You'd better get in line before it's too late."

It took me a second to realize the sexy male voice was speaking to me. Startled, I looked around for the source. What was a guy doing here, anyway?

When I found it, my heart did an odd little flip. Sitting on a bench with an instant icepack pressed to his right eye was a guy that was too gorgeous to be benched. How could I have missed him? He had a wicked smile calculated to make girls melt, and his left eye danced with amusement as he watched me. He sat with his legs spread wide, just inviting a girl to stand between them and coo condolences on his injury. Touch his cheek. Offer him any comfort he wanted. He looked dangerous with one eye covered and the way a lock of dark hair fell against the icepack. Yet sympathetic at the same time, like you just wanted to take care of him.
Even though he was sitting, it was obvious he was tall and athletically built beneath the T-shirt and shorts he wore. "Well?"

I blinked. "I'm thinking."

"The window of opportunity is closing." He stood and walked over to stand next to me, so close I could smell the delicious scent of his cologne.

"Yes," I said. "I know."

He ignored any sarcasm that had slipped into my tone. "What do you want to have pierced?"

"My bellybutton." I just blurted it out, wondering why this complete stranger inspired my confidence. And why he cared.

He nodded. "Good choice. Bellybutton rings are hot. Every woman should have one."

Excerpt

"You like vodka?" Kade said.
"What?" I glanced at him uncertainly. "That's kind of an odd question. From way out in left field."
"You're half Russian." He was staring at me intensely. "You must like vodka."
"Oh, no." I returned his gaze with equal intensity. Had he felt that tingle when our hands touched, too? Our conversation was all innocent on the outside but I could sense the sexual tension seething on the inside. Neither of us broke eye contact. He wasn't sitting all that far from me. It wouldn't take much to close the gap and wrap my lips around his. "I had vodka once when I was in tenth grade. Almost threw up. Scotch is more my thing."
"Scotch? That's a man's drink."
I shrugged, but didn't break eye contact. "Not really."
"Any preferred brands?" His voice sounded deeper, more sexual. I was starting to lose myself in those eyes.
"I don't know." My voice sounded strange, too. A little breathy. "All kinds of brands. I don't like Jack Daniels, though."
"That's not even scotch. That's whiskey."
"Same thing."
Kade stood up now and edged a little closer. His eyes never left mine. "How can you not like Jack Daniels? That's, like, a Tennessee institution. They make it there, don't they?"
"They do." My heart was beating fast. "But Collier and McKeel is more my thing."
"How do you know so much about all these drinks, anyway?" he said in that deep, slow voice. "The legal age is twenty-one in Tennessee."
I knew my eyes were broadcasting sheer want. He felt it. I'm sure he did, because his eyes fed that want right back at me. "I'm a delinquent."
"You are." He took another step closer. I could hear his breathing now. Deeper. Faster. "Collier and McKeel... remind me to let you try Seagram's 83 sometime. Canadians make the best whiskey. Perfect for a delinquent like you."
"I'm actually more of a wine person. At least I used to be." We were so close now, barely a hand-span away. Those green eyes never left mine, and consumed me.
"Wine? I can see that. I'd peg you as a fan of white. You speak Sauvignon Blanc?" The way he said those French words sounded so sexy.
"I speak champagne," I said huskily. "Dom Perignon makes the most amazing Cristal. White Gold is--" I choked off the words, feeling suddenly like I was drowning, and I turned away from Kade. I couldn't hold back the sudden tears.
After all this time, something so simple as the name of a drink still affected me. I almost hoped Kade would wrap his arms around me and carry me away from the horrors of the past and save me from the guilt, but when I looked at him I saw he'd retreated to the shade again. He was sitting on the log with his arms crossed, facing away from me, staring at the river.
