Her blood is toxic to vampires.
If there is one thing eighteen-year-old Aurora Sky wants, it's to get off the iceberg she calls home. Being kissed before she graduates wouldn't hurt either.
Then a near-fatal car wreck changes everything. Government agents step in and save Aurora's life in exchange for her services as a vampire hunter in Alaska. Basically she's a glorified chew toy. All thanks to her rare blood type, which sends a vampire into temporary paralysis right before she has to finish the job...by hand.
Now Aurora's only friends are groupies of the undead and the only boy she can think about may very well be a vampire.
(Mature YA/New Adult series. Contains mild language, violence, sexual situations . . . and blood sucking.)
This was a refreshing take on the vampire hunter storyline. She doesn't just stab them in the heart, she has to lure them in and bite her. I was like "Huh?"
So let me back up and explain. After almost dying in a car accident, Aurora wakes up on a military base. In which she discovers that her blood is special and has been infected with viruses that cause a vampire paralysis. Now I'm like "I got it!" Downside to this? She has to get regular injections so she doesn't keel over herself.
Aurora is a very studious girl. That is, until the whole, almost dying and in a coma part happens to her. Ya, I could see why school wouldn't be as important. Especially if the stipulation of being this hunter means you can't leave the state to achieve your dreams. Oh and on top of that, she can't tell anyone what she is. Talk about secrets.
In the midst of this vampire ass kicking, there is romance or is it lust. Still haven't figured that part out. But it doesn't take away much from the main plot.
All in all, if you need some good old "Die foul creature". Then I'd have this one a go. Can't wait to read volume two.
Warning: This is not your goodie two shoes grade 12 girl. And you can thank the accident for that.
