Maci Might's sixteenth birthday is supposed to be the day she's awarded Hero status. But thanks to a tiny anger problem and a questionable family tree, King City's elders think it's best if she doesn't join the Hero ranks. Determined to change their minds, Maci will break whatever rule it takes to prove she's Hero material. As her hair darkens and her anger grows, everyone turns against her except Evan; a childhood friend turned scientist who may be able to unlock the secrets hidden in her DNA.
When a villain attacks King City and her dad is held prisoner, Maci discovers a truth she refuses to believe. She may not be a Hero after all—but this time the Heroes of King City need her more than she needs them. And she won't let them down.
Powered is the first in a trilogy.
This book was... AWESOME!!! Like it seriously kicked ass. Cheyanne, you are now automatically like one of my favorite authors.
Trying to get my thoughts together was hard. My inner nerdy superhero was jumping and flailing at this book.
I love Maci. She was what any teen hero would be. Think they're all that, with the attitude and stuff. But like anyone who puts up a front, there is longing to belong.
We discover that Maci had a twin sister who passed away at birth. Theory goes that one twin is a "hero" and the other is a "villain". But because of her twin dying, she doesn't know which one she is.
She sticks out like a sore thumb against the other Heroes with her physical looks. The main one being that she has dark hair and well regular Heroes don't. I liked this physical trait, it makes the whole Good vs. Evil, Dark vs. Light seem real.
Now what isn't a superhero book without a villain. What I liked about this book was that the baddie is that it was a female. Many villains in this kind of book/movie are usually male. Hey, she may be a bitch but I still give her credit.
Overall, this was a brilliant book and I can't wait to read the next book. If you love your superheroes then this one is definitely a must read.
PS. I couldn't even organize my feels for the best part. So you'll just have to see where I went :O yourself.
